Police say a woman was stabbed multiple times overnight in an attack by her ex-boyfriend.
Police arrived at an apartment on East 182nd Street around 1:30 a.m.  and found the victim crying for help on the third floor of the apartment building.
Investigators say at the same time police were tending to the victim, her ex-boyfriend was stabbing himself in the neck in her apartment.
News 12 is told the ex-boyfriend, who is 53 years old, is in police custody and is facing several charges, including, burglary and assault with intent to cause physical injury.
The 28-year-old victim told detectives she opened the door of her apartment when her ex-boyfriend asked for a glass of water and then forced himself inside. That's when News 12 is told he went into the kitchen, picked up a knife and started to stab her.
Investigators say she was stabbed multiple times in the face, shoulder, chest and hand.
People living in building describe hearing the victim yelling out for help. They say she ran from the fifth floor and collapsed on the third, calling out for her son as she bled, yelling she didn't want to die.
Both the suspect and the victim were taken to the hospital.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
