An ongoing Twitter feud between Democratic Congressman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her conservative critics was revitalized Friday night when the representative posted about her Bronx roots.
Ocasio-Cortez, 29, was slammed by her critics when she tweeted a reference to Jennifer Lopez’s “Jenny from the block.”
"Don't be fooled by the plaques that we got,'' Ocasio-Cortez wrote above the photo of a plaque representing her position with New York’s 14 congressional District, which covers parts of the Bronx and Queens. "I'm still / I'm still Alex from the Bronx.''
Actor and political columnist Michael Knowles was quick to follow up with a flurry of tweets accusing her of falsely selling a Bronx upbringing, citing the “excellent schools” she attended in an “affluent suburb.”
Ocasio-Cortez has not denied that she did in fact relocate from the Parkchester section of the Bronx to Westchester with her family when she was 5 years old, information that can also be found in interview that her mother did with the New York Times.
This wasn’t the first time her upbringing was called into question. The issue also arose after some conservatives criticized her campaign bio after her primary victory over Joe Crowley.

The feud also stretches back to July when John Cardillo, the host of a Newsmax TV program, criticized Ocasio-Cortez by tweeting a picture of her Yorktown Heights home.

Ocasio-Cortez responded by saying, "It is nice. Growing up it was a good town for working people. My mom scrubbed toilets so I could live here and I grew up seeing how the zip code one is born in determines much of their opportunity."

According to Ocasio-Cortez's campaign bio, the state of Bronx public schools in the late 80s and early 90s sent her parents on a search for a solution, leading them to move to Yorktown Heights. Ocasio–Cortez reportedly moved back to the Bronx after graduating from Boston University.
News 12 has reached out to the congresswoman's press team for comment but has not yet received a response.
