Police say they have arrested a man in connection to a fatal hit-and-run that killed an 82-year-old woman Friday night in Wakefield.

Officials say 50-year-old Alcyto Powell struck and killed Hilda Arocho with a white Dodge cargo van when she was in the middle of crossing the street. 

The incident happened just after 9 p.m. on Pitman Avenue near the corner of Gunther Avenue.

Arocho was taken to Jacobi Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.

Police say the incident happened right outside Arocho's home. News 12 is told that Powell fled the scene on foot.

News 12 is also told the abandoned vehicle was a rental.
