Officials unveil newly renovated Cedar Playground
It's a place known for its role in hip-hop history, and Tuesday parks department officials unveiled the newly renovated Cedar Playground.
The park underwent a $2.4 million facelift that included upgrades to the playground, basketball courts and the surrounding area in Morris Heights.
Some have called the park the birthplace of hip-hop, so several of the genre's originators attended the unveiling. DJ Kool Herc, who used to spin records at the park in 1974, rapper Grandmaster Caz, Emcee, and Coke LA Rock were all on hand.
Residents are excited about the rebirth of the park and hope it will help provide many memories for the next generation.
