A veterans' organization in Filedston is settling into a new home.
As first reported in the Riverdale Press, the Old Guard of New York recently moved from Manhattan to the Bronx.

Every room in the Fieldston house is packed with relics and even family memories for retired Lt. Col. Robert Sikorski, who is the Commandant of the Old Guard.

"This is my father's Silver Star, which he got in the second World War. Actually, we know what dad was doing Christmas Eve," says Lt. Col. Sikorski.

The Old Guard, a veterans’ organization that formed in the 19th century, was previously located in Manhattan on West 91st Street but it needed a lot of renovation.
So they sold that spot.

"And that gave us the money to buy this and to do some renovations and to create a trust fund for the future," says Lt. Col. Sikorski.

It also gave them more room.

"It also enabled us to take a lot of our memorabilia that we had in storage that nobody ever sees," says Lt. Col. Sikorski.

Now Old Guard members can enjoy it all.
While this location is not open to the public, the organization is always looking for new veterans to become members.

“It offers companionship, but it also offers the satisfaction of duty,” says Lt. Col. Sikorski.
