Pilot program to give access to Jerome Park Reservoir
New plans are in the works to finally give Bronx residents access to the Jerome Park Reservoir. It has been off limits for 75 years.
A task force will be formed to start a pilot program to open up the 93-acre green space to the public. The community initiative by the Department of Environmental Protection calls for supervised tours of the infrastructure, which supplies drinking water to more than one million New Yorkers.
An open house and supervised school tours are also in the works for the public to learn how the reservoir provides clean water to their taps.
The pilot program is expected to begin sometime in the fall.
