Two babies died in the Bronx Saturday in separate incidents, police say.
In Concourse Village, police say a 1-month-old baby was found unresponsive and unconscious around 9 a.m. in a bedroom at 232 East 169th Street.
Authorities identified the girl as Sofia Mendez. She was taken to Bronx Lebanon Hospital by emergency responders where she was pronounced dead.
Just hours earlier, another baby girl – identified by police as 6-month-old Zalaiah Lewis – was also found unconscious and unresponsive inside a bedroom at 20 Richmond Plaza in Morris Heights.
Police say the baby was also taken to Bronx Lebanon Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
It was not immediately clear what led to their deaths. The cause of the two unrelated incidents will be determined by a medical examiner.
