Police: 20-year-old woman shot in face, stomach
Police say a 20-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital after being shot in the face and stomach in the Bronx.
Police took 38-year-old Arthur Meredith into custody in connection with the shooting, which happened on the 14th floor of the Morris Houses on Third Avenue at around 4 a.m.
Meredith's wife, Jeanatte says her husband acted in self-defense.
She says that on Wednesday morning, a group arrived at her home after she told her daughter to move out. The suspect's wife says her daughter is always up to no good and wants her out.
"I just asked my daughter to come pick up her belongings because I can't deal with the abuse," she says.
Meredith says the group pulled out a steak knife on them, so her husband used a gun full of blanks to scare them off, injuring her daughter's sister-in-law, who reports claim is pregnant.
Meredith says it's a domestic issue and that the victim is not pregnant.
The victim was taken to Lincoln Medical Center in serious condition.
