Two Stamford women are facing charges for allegedly overturning their vehicle while driving drunk with an 8-month-old baby in the back seat.
Stamford police say the first night of their 2020 Operating Under the Influence detail brought them to the scene of a crash on Richmond Hill Avenue.
Police say Magna Corado-Najarro, 37, and the driver, 35-year-old Juana Petz-Aviles, were visibly intoxicated and had open containers of vodka and beer in the car. Corado-Najarro's 8-month-old daughter was also riding in the back seat.
Police say there were no serious injuries, but this was still the most egregious DUI case they have seen in some time.
"This isn’t just a holiday party mishap. This is a conscious decision to put an 8-month-old child in harm's way. And put them at risk and the public at risk. So this is one of the worst cases I've seen with a child in the car. Luckily we’re not dealing with a fatality today," said Stamford Police Capt. Diedrich Hohn.
Corado-Najarro, who faced a judge on Friday, is also under an immigration detainer from Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
She and Petz-Aviles are each being held on $5,000 bond.
