A man was killed in a multivehicle crash on the Cross Bronx Expressway early Monday morning.
It happened just after 1 a.m. on the expressway near Anthony Avenue and East 174th Street.
Police say it began as a two-car collision but turned into at least a six-vehicle crash, as other vehicles struck one or both of the original vehicles involved in the crash. It snarled traffic for miles and left debris covering the roadway.
One man was pronounced dead. Police tell News 12 a 22-year-old man was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in critical condition.
Police say a third person was also injured, and she is listed in stable condition.
Police had partially closed lanes on both the westbound and eastbound sides of the Cross Bronx Expressway earlier this morning.
Police sources tell News 12 that the driver of the sixth vehicle left the scene, so now police are also looking for a hit-and-run driver.
The NYPD has not yet publicly identified the deceased victim.
