Police believe a nurse who went missing in 2015 is dead and are calling the missing persons case suspicious.
Nearly two years have gone by since 30-year-old Mahfuza Rahman vanished, leaving behind her husband and her daughter.
Detectives say they thought her disappearance was suspicious after her co-workers told them they had last seen her leaving Bellevue Hospital on Dec. 8, 2015. During the search to find Rahman, investigators dug up the lawn in front of her Bedford Park home but found no signs of her.
News 12 is told her husband, who is listed as a person of interest, left the country soon after she disappeared.
Police say new details from the husband's credit card history have led them to believe Rahman is dead. They say he bought a 16-inch axe and packing tape.
The investigation also found he lied to police and said his wife left the country for a family emergency, but U.S. Customs later told investigators there had been no proof she left.
Her husband is now believed to be hiding in Bangladesh, but police are asking the public if they know of his whereabouts.
Anyone with information is urged to call police.
