Police: Cyclist struck by MTA bus in Grand Concourse
An MTA bus crashed into a cyclist on East Tremont Avenue and Grand Concourse Thursday afternoon, leaving one man in the hospital.
Sources say the victim was a 26-year-old man who was impacted by the front passenger side of a bus around 2 p.m. The crash left a window partially shattered.
After a few hours, police took the bike - which they kept in the bus - and moved it into one of their police vehicles. Investigators mostly stayed inside the bus following the incident.
In a statement, the MTA says, "Our operators are trained to share the road safely with pedestrians, bicyclists and other motorists alike, and we are investigating this incident, as we do all incidents in which there's contact between a bus and any person or thing."
The cyclist was taken to St. Barnabas for their injuries.
There was a bike lane near where the accident happened. It is unclear if the cyclist was using the lane at the time of the crash.
