Police: Elmont man charged with murder in strangulation of woman found behind South Hempstead dumpster

Nassau County police say Andrew Avila and Rebecca Carlson met on a dating website.

Police say 25-year-old Andrew Avila, of Elmont, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Rebecca Carlson.
The 39-year-old Hempstead woman was found lying behind the Advance Auto Parts store on Grand Avenue.
Nassau County police say Avila and Carlson met on a dating website. They say Avila picked the victim up after an argument about a sexual act and strangled her.
Police say Carlon was a mother who developed a drug addiction and used the website to support her habit.
