An investigation into shots being fired into a Huntington Station home is just one of several shootings in the area in recent weeks.
The drive-by shooting happened at 1:45 a.m. Saturday, with 40 shots fired into the home at 50 Teed St. by three different guns.
Police say there have been at least seven shootings in Huntington Station in the past several weeks, including five this month.
Deputy Chief of Detectives Mathew Lewis says shots have been fired on Teed Street, Eddy Drive, East 17th Street, Kilburn Avenue, West 15th Street and East 9th Street.
Police say they believe there's a dispute going on between two gangs, or within a gang.
Longtime Huntington Station resident Jim McGoldrick says police need more resources, and the Town of Huntington needs to get involved.
"We have the COPE officers, they're out doing everything they can, they need more help, they need gang units," says McGoldrick. "We need town code enforcement to do their jobs also, they have to go around and make sure everything is being done properly."
"The residents may not notice everything we've done, we obviously do use undercover vehicles also in this situation," says Lewis. "People who live in the area of these houses, if they feel that there's some sort of activity happening at a given moment that they feel is suspicious, I urge them to call 911 immediately, they should not hesitate."
The group Huntington Matters released a statement to News 12 acknowledging four drive-by shootings in recent months, adding, "The increase in drive-by shootings is absolutely concerning to our community. As a neighborhood watch, we encourage neighbors to call and report any suspicious behavior they see, or find on their home surveillance cameras to the police immediately."
