A Bay Shore man allegedly struck a motorcycle and an SUV with his car on the William Floyd Parkway in Shirley Sunday night before fleeing the scene.
Police say 31-year-old Deris Medlock hit a motorcycle and a Honda CRV around 10 p.m. Police say he admitted that he was high on PCP at the time. He's facing DWI charges.
A Shirley man driving the motorcycle received minor injuries -- but his wife, who was his passenger, remains hospitalized with more severe wounds.
"Next thing I know, I was on the ground, and my wife is on the ground," says Christopher Pesce, the biker. "After that, it's all a blur."
His wife Rose was rushed to Stony Brook University Hospital with a major head wound and a broken hip.
"She's got a long road ahead of her," Pesce says.
No one in the Honda was injured.
Pesce is a member of the motorcycle safety group Long Island ABATE. Fellow members attended Medlock's court appearance Monday in a show of support.
"I hope the courts take this into consideration and start punishing these people," says Jim Barr, another member. "Especially when they are injuring vulnerable passengers on motorcycles."
