Police: Man barricaded self, others in apartment
Police and emergency crews were called to Mott Haven Sunday morning after they say a man barricaded himself and others inside an apartment.
Police say the man barricaded himself inside 360 137th St. just before 9 a.m.
There is no word on why the man refused to exit the apartment, or whether any criminality was involved. Police were seen taking the man out of the building while strapped to a stretcher.
One resident who lives in the building says that police warned him of a hostage situation. The NYPD's Hostage Negotiation Team was also on hand.
Fire officials say a total of five people were taken to Lincoln Hospital. One person is in serious but stable condition and the others suffered minor injuries.
Authorities say the man involved is emotionally disturbed.
