Police say the 63-year-old man ran over Noelia Mateo with a car on Ellsworth Avenue before jumping out and attacking her with a machete.
Police say Mateo was getting into her car when her husband sideswiped her and struck her. Police say the man then hit another car, got into Mateo's car and backed over her.
Police say he then got out, slashed and stabbed her with a machete then drove off in her car.
Police say Mateo was lying face up on the sidewalk and had injuries to her face and body.
Several neighbors tell News 12 they yelled for Mateo's husband to stop and called 911, horrified at the blood bath. Neighbors say the two were estranged.
Neighbors say Mateo moved in about a year ago and saw her husband waiting early Thursday morning at the end of the block.
Officials say the 58-year-old woman was pronounced dead at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi.
Neighbors say Mateo's two grandchildren were outside when it all happened.
There is no word on where the children have been taken. Police are still searching for Mateo's husband.
