Police have discovered a man who they say was held captive for three days in the basement of a Wakefield bodega.
Police say they were investigating another crime when they made the discovery. Police say they chased two men for an unrelated reason and ended up at the bodega around 2 a.m. Wednesday.
Police say an employee allowed them in the basement and that's where they made the discovery. Authorities believe it was the result of a botched drug deal.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim told police he was just a few blocks down inside a different bodega on White Plains Road with three men he said he knew.
The victim says he was beaten by the men then put into a car. He says he was then taken to the bodega where he was eventually found.
The victim says the owner of the bodega accused him of stealing money and the criminal complaint adds that he was then beaten some more by the men who threatened to kill him.
The victim says one of the men told him that he would rape his wife and daughter and kill his family. The victim also said the man told him he had killed in Jamaica before.
The store employee who initially let the officers in the basement is wanted for questioning. Police say his name is Richard Millwood, and he is 35 years old.
Police say the store owner is facing a number of charges. The charges include kidnapping, assault and unlawful imprisonment and criminal possession of a weapon.
