Police: Man robbed 5 women in elevators
Police say a man robbed five women on five separate occasions in elevators.
They say the suspect followed his victims into elevators in their own apartment buildings and stole their purses, cellphones and wallets.
Authorities say the robberies took place between early October and late December, and each one occurred either late at night or early in the morning.
In the most recent attack, a 32-year-old woman was in her building's elevator when the suspect got inside with her and demanded her purse.
After the victim refused to hand it over, the suspect punched her, grabbed the purse and ran off, police say.
Officials say four of the robberies happened at a building on Webster Avenue, and the fifth happened at a building on Washington Avenue.
Police describe the suspect as a Hispanic man in his late 20s who stands about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 230 pounds.
Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
