Police: Marijuana grow house uncovered in East Tremont
Authorities say plants and packaged marijuana were discovered at an alleged marijuana grow house in an East Tremont building.
Officials with the NYPD, FDNY, the city's Department of Building and Con Edison all converged on the five-story building on Marmion Avenue Sunday afternoon. Police say the response came after a gas leak was reported.
Neighbors complained of a strong smell of marijuana on the first floor, and police were seen standing guard in front of at least one apartment.
Con Ed tells News 12 that it was ordered to shut down electricity in a first-floor apartment. The utility also had to remove an illegal jumper and shut down gas at a stove valve.
A neighbor tells News 12 that a man and woman live in the first-floor apartment where electricity was cut off.
Police say no arrests have been made at this time and their investigation is continuing.
It comes after another grow operation was busted in Marble Hill last month. In that case, bags of marijuana plants were removed from two different buildings in the complex.
