Police officers are taking a preventative approach when it comes to stopping gangs in the Bronx.
The NYPD Gang Squad, along with 48 neighborhood coordination officers, hosted a parental gang awareness meeting Wednesday night at the Mount Carmel Recreation Center.
Organizers say the best way to combat the growing problem is to become as knowledgeable as possible about gangs.
The meeting was held in the wake of the slayings of a 15-year-old and 14-year-old, who was stabbed more than a dozen times as cars drove by. Police say both of these attacks have ties to the Trinitarios gang.
The meeting was closed to media but organizers say they planned to discuss gang recruitment, myths and realities of gangs, gang colors and signs and prevention methods.
