Police probe ruined private pond in Van Cortlandt Village
A private pond in Van Cortlandt Village was mysteriously destroyed over a week ago.
Police are investigating what happened to the pond after about 15 fish and a pet duck were found dead.
Nick Lynch, who built the pond for his five children and the surrounding community, says that he tested the water and all pH levels were fine. However, he says he found a plastic bag filled with some type of powder in the ponds drain.
Despite what occurred, the Lynch's plan on rebuilding the pond.
"You rebuild, you start over from the beginning, you don't let one setback stop you," says Nick Lynch.
The Lynch family is now working with the 50th Precinct to make sure this doesn't happen again. They've installed security cameras and a net to protect the pond.
