Police are spearheading a campaign to send an orphaned boy to Disney World.
Tyrone Lowe Jr., 7, was in the other room when police say his father, Tyrone Lowe Sr., gunned down his mother, Shoshane Rattigan. The elder Lowe was found dead in his car about a week later.
Now, police officers at the NYPD's 49th Precinct are raising money to send Lowe Jr. to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, and then to college when he's old enough.
"I think he'll have a different impression of people when he gets older because of the captain and precinct and cops and what the community is doing," says David Lepore, of the 49th Precinct's Community Affairs Bureau.
The donations are being collected by the community council. About $1,200 has been raised so far.
