Police seek person who left bike on tracks before crash
Police are searching for the person responsible for leaving a bike on the tracks before a Metro-North train struck it in the Bronx on Monday.
The incident, which occurred on the southbound tracks of the Metro-North just south of the Fordham Road station, resulted in a fire. The MTA says the train was leaving the Fordham station with 200 passengers on board when it happened.
No one was hurt, and they were able to put out the fire using extinguishers that were on board the train. The passengers waited for another train to arrive and take them to their destinations.
They say the bicycle was destroyed but it didn't damage the train or the third rail. Police and the MTA are working together to determine who is responsible.
