Police say a woman was found dead in a Belmont apartment with apparent trauma to her head and body.
Officers responded to a 911 call at 519 E. 187th St. around 8 a.m. Sunday. There they found a 40-year-old woman unconscious and unresponsive, and police say she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have identified the woman as Luz Perez, of Belmont.
The woman's daughter tells News 12 that her mother moved into the apartment a few months ago and that she lived with two of her children - a 5-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl. She says the children were home at the time.
She also says that her mother has six children in total, and was married, but had an order of protection against her husband who showed up from time to time.
She claims they had issues, and a incident happened between the two of them a couple of weeks ago. Police have not said if he is a person of interest.
The medical examiner will determine the woman's cause of death.
