Poor drainage overwhelms Underhill Avenue
Drainage problems on Underhill Avenue have some Soundview residents likening their street to a river.
They say the problem has been going on for more than a decade.
Puddles formed on both sides of Underhill Avenue between Lafayette and Story avenues Thursday under a steady stream of rain. Residents there say it gets much worse.
Residents at the Leland Garden condominiums say it happens every time there is a big downpour -- then it takes days until the water subsides.
They say they've been reaching out to local elected officials for a solution since 2005, to no avail.
Residents have also voiced concerns that the pools of rain water could attract virus-carrying mosquitoes.
The Bronx borough president's office says officials are working with the Department of Transportation and the Department of Environmental Protection for a solution.
