Several Bronx girls got a treat on Saturday to help make an important occasion in their lives extra special.
A new organization called Project Princess is working with the nonprofit Phipps Neighborhoods to provide Bronx eighth-graders and high school students with their dream prom dresses.
Founder Sarah Richman, 16, hasn't even been to prom yet, but she has seen peers struggle to get ready for theirs.
"I have a lot of friends that are seniors this year and I know like how hard it is to find a dress or how much money it is," Richman said on Saturday at the Sonia Sotomayor Community Center in Soundview. "And I don't want that to be the barrier that stops them from going."
Project Princess pairs girls with personal shoppers to help them find the perfect dress, as well as jewelry and shoes to complete their look.
Project Princess is still accepting dress donations. The organization will continue to outfit Bronx girls at its next event in May.
