P.S. 207 honors FDNY after Kingsbridge house explosion
P.S. 207 students showed their appreciation Wednesday for FDNY firefighters following last week's deadly house explosion on West 234th Street in Kingsbridge.
After the blast, teachers at the elementary school say they saw an opportunity to teach their students about how much firefighters risk every day. On Wednesday, they trekked a few blocks from the school to a firehouse to say thanks to FDNY members in person.
One first-grade class made its way to the Ladder 46 firehouse to give FDNY members a card signed by all P.S. 207 students. The firefighters were caught off-guard, especially when the kids began talking about why they are so appreciative of their service.
The card will join a growing display of candles and flowers set up outside the firehouse.
Teachers say they hope to help build relationships between students and the community.
