P.S. 46 teachers donate Christmas gifts for needy students
Teachers from P.S. 46 Elementary School came together Friday to provide Christmas gifts to the school's neediest children as part of an annual holiday project.
This year, 48 kids took part in the program, and all gifts were donated by their own teachers.
"We identify children that are in need, that need extra holiday cheer," said teacher Rebecca Lauer. "They give a wish list, and the teachers volunteer to be angels to give the kids a great holiday."
The Angel Tree Project is a program that was started in 2011 by Rebecca Lauer. Participating students submit a wish list, and the teachers (aka "the angels") donate gifts to fulfill them.
"It makes me really happy to see teachers asking me if I'm doing it again next year," said Lauer. She also said that some students say they wouldn't have received a gift at all had it not been for the project.
Lauer says that she is hoping the local community and businesses will participate next year, so that the project can give even more gifts to local children.
