Public pools opened across the Bronx and the rest of New York City Thursday.
The 53 outdoor city pools, including the pool at Mullaly Park in the Bronx, opened across the city and will remain open seven days a week until Sept. 10.
City officials say some pools will offer free sunscreen to protect swimmers.
Other city pools and parks will offer free lunches to children under 18 this summer, according to parks officials.
The lunch program will be available at over 79 parks across the city.
The Parks Department says it will extend the swimming season one week past Labor Day.
