Police are searching for a man who allegedly stole two purebred puppies worth thousands of dollars from a NYCHA complex in Melrose.
Police say that Dequan Hampton is wanted for grand larceny.
Angelique Negroni-Kearse, the puppies’ owner, tells News 12 the 3-month old Yorkshire terriers are part of a litter of six that she put up for sale.
The stolen puppies were the only two that were not sold.
Negroni-Kearse says that she knows who took them.
She says a family friend offered to sell the puppies for $50, but he skipped out of the deal and stole them from her apartment at the Melrose Houses.
According to the owner, the male puppy is worth around $1,500 and the female is worth around $2,500.
