Rain causes flooding in Soundview
Dark clouds and impending rain threatened to disrupt Tuesday evening's commute throughout the city.
The Cross Bronx Expressway was still moving freely early Tuesday evening, and rain seemed to be brief and passing.
Heavy downpours and thunderstorms caused some flooding in the Soundview area earlier in the day.
Residents say that the drainage problem has become worse over the last five years, and their complaints have gone unanswered.
"We get wet, we're going into our cars, we get puddled," says Lillian Garey, who lives on a flooded street. "And not only that - the holes, we don't know where the holes are, and our cars just get damaged."
By Tuesday afternoon, rainfall was just a light sprinkle in other parts of the borough. Around City Island, residents turned out for outdoor dining and a view of the Throgs Neck Bridge.
Forecasters are expecting storms to end by midnight and skies to clear overnight.
Wednesday is expected to have plenty of sun, with highs in the 80s.
