Remains of FDNY hero killed in Afghanistan arrive at Delaware Air Force base

The remains of FDNY firefighter and U.S. Marine Christopher Slutman arrived at an Air Force base in Delaware Thursday night.

The remains of FDNY firefighter and U.S. Marine Christopher Slutman arrived at an Air Force base in Delaware Thursday night.
About a dozen firefighters left from Ladder 27 in the Bronx Thursday, where Slutman served, and made their way to the base to receive the casket of their colleague and friend.
His casket arrived at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware where he will be laid to rest.
Slutman, 43, was killed on Monday after a roadside bomb exploded near his military convoy north of Kabul in Afghanistan. The Taliban have taken responsibility for the attack. The explosionalso took that life of two other Marines.
Slutman was a staff sergeant in the Marines and known for his selfless acts of courage and kindness. In his time serving, he won a medal for saving a woman from a burning building in the Bronx in 2014. He was a 15-year FDNY veteran who many people are calling an American hero.
Slutman is survived by his wife and three daughters.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
