Report: Rabbi scrutinized for sauna sessions to stay
A synagogue board reportedly will not seek the removal of a prominent rabbi accused of improper conduct with young men.
Rabbi Jonathan Rosenblatt, of the Riverdale Jewish Center, came under fire after reports surfaced about the religious leader taking boys as young as 12 into showers and saunas back in the 1980s. He has since apologized for what he calls "a lapse in judgement."
According to the New York Times, the board wrote in a letter, saying after weeks of consideration, it came to the conclusion that Rosenblatt's plan of strengthening membership bonds and maintaining the synagogue's financial stability is an effective approach and it won't fire him.
The Times has reported that at least two board members resigned over the decision to keep the rabbi, and dozens of members of the center have begun to hold services at their homes instead of at the synagogue.
