Resident: South Bronx trees uprooting sidewalk
Overgrown trees are uprooting the sidewalks in one South Bronx neighborhood, according to a man who lives there.
William Cardoza says roots are pushing up the sidewalks from below on Jackson Avenue.
"I don't want to get rid of the trees," says Cardoza, who's lived in the area for 20 years and says he loves them. "But I wouldn't want to have someone come over here and trip over that -- lose their front teeth or anything like that."
He called 311 after one of his neighbors tripped and fell on a root, he says.
The city's Parks Department says it sent an inspector and found that the sidewalk didn't qualify for repairs at that time.
