Residents concerned over lack of safety, number of accidents at Morris Park intersection
Bronx residents are pleading with the city to fix an intersection they say has been the site of numerous car accidents over the years.
Residents say the city recently installed a new traffic light near the intersection of Rhinelander and Tomlinson avenues in Morris Park, but it just isn't enough.
According to the Department of Transportation, there were eight injuries as a result of car crashes or pedestrian-related accidents between 2010 and 2014. The data reveals one bicycle and seven motor vehicle accidents were reported in the four-year time period.
But, one neighbor claims they have seen 10 accidents just over the last year, and that many of the accidents go unreported.
"You have kids going to school every day and that's our concern because people will speed. From that traffic light to this traffic light, they'll speed. It's crazy. So if they put another traffic light up, I don't think it will hurt anyone. And I wish they would listen to our concerns," one neighbor says.
The DOT says it is currently conducting a traffic study in the area and may install speed bumps near the intersection.
