Residents fight to save beloved community garden
Residents at a Throgs Neck apartment complex are fighting to save a beloved community garden from being demolished.
Miriam Ley says she planted the garden at her NYCHA apartment complex on Sampson Avenue four years ago. She says she decided to expand the garden into an empty lot next door, but last week crews came to demolish it.
Ley says that NYCHA refuses to renew her application and that crews are expected to completely tear it down on Thursday.
Ley's neighbors have started a petition to keep the garden. So far, more than 100 people have signed it.
A representative from NYCHA told News 12 the Bronx that it is looking to close the garden because of its multiple problems with trash collection.
