Residents take part in vigil, march in honor of Bronx teen slain at bodega
Residents gathered Sunday evening take part in a vigil and a march that paid tribute to a teen who was killed outside a Belmont bodega a week ago.
The vigil was held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church Sunday for Lesandro “Junior” Guzman Feliz who died on June 20 after a group of men brutally attacked him with knives and machetes.
After the vigil, the group marched to a new mural titled “Stand with Junior.” The mural features 48 candles to represent the 48th Precinct, where Junior wanted to be a police officer.
Guzman's friends who helped raise funds and had input on the mural design, imprinted their fingerprints on the mural. Those in attendance said it meant a lot to see people come and pay their respects.
Residents say that the mural, along with other initiatives for Junior, will leave a legacy in the community.
