Rising star from the Bronx stars in 'Southpaw'
The summer movie "Southpaw" is drawing crowds to theaters nationwide and also stars a native from the Bronx.
Dominic Colon plays Mikey, the childhood friend of Jake Gyllenhaal's Billy Hope, in the boxing drama.
Colon has starred in more than 50 feature films and TV shows.
Colon's love of being on stage began at the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club on Randall Avenue in the Bronx, a childhood place that nurtured his acting. He visits as often as he can.
Colon also writes and produces. His 2011 film "Crush" was aired on HBO and shown at film festivals around the world.
The Bronx native has also starred in notable shows including "Power," "Law and Order," "Orange Is the New Black" and "The Electric Company."
He is currently working on a new production for the fall.
