A Roosevelt man is facing serious charges after he allegedly entered a secure Verizon communications building in Garden City and spied on women in the bathroom.
Prosecutors say Jamali Johnson, 32, sneaked into the building on Zeckendorf Boulevard on Oct. 25 and was caught looking at a woman from underneath a bathroom stall.
When he was confronted by another employee, Johnson allegedly ran from the building. According to court documents, there is video of his escape. A Verizon security officer tried but was unable to catch the suspect.
Johnson was arrested Tuesday and was arraigned today on multiple charges, including criminal trespassing. He pleaded not guilty and was held on a $10,000 bond.
Johnson was also charged with possession of marijuana and public lewdness. Detectives say he exposed himself and performed a sexual act while in custody and while he was being questioned by authorities.
Prosecutors say Johnson has a long criminal history that includes four felony convictions. Police say Johnson was charged in 2011 with assault and resisting arrest after a woman reported Johnson was in the women’s bathroom at the Hempstead courthouse looking under stalls.
