School bus strikes, seriously injures woman in University Heights
Police say a school bus struck and seriously injured a woman in University Heights Friday.
The school bus struck the woman near the crosswalk at West Fordham Road and Sedgwick Avenue around 12:30 p.m., according to first responders.
News 12 has learned the 43-year-old was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in serious condition, reportedly with internal bleeding. Her identify is not yet known.
No children were on the school bus at the time of the crash.
An eyewitness says he is not surprised to see an accident on the busy road, but was shocked to learn the victim is his neighbor.
"She was just on the floor laid out and she just seemed very injured, she was bleeding out of the mouth, and that's all I pretty much saw," says Jay Smith. "It was tragic and I feel really bad for her. I just hope she is all right."
The Department of Transportation says there have been 13 accidents at that intersection this year.
