School overcrowding takes center stage at BX town hall
Frustrated Bronx parents from District 8 made school overcrowding a focal point during their latest town hall meeting.
Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott spoke with parents who claim that others are lying about where they live to get their kids into certain schools. They say the Department of Education (DOE) is doing nothing to stop the tactic, and that it's hurting performance in the classroom.
Walcott admitted to adding an extra kindergarten class at P.S. 71 because there were too many students, but many parents say he didn't provide any other solutions for the problem.
News 12 reached out to the DOE for comment, but has not yet heard back.
