'Second Chance Event' helps remove residents' warrants
The Bronx District Attorney's Office hosted its Second Chance Event for the second consecutive year Saturday.
The event, which was held at Eastchester Presbyterian Church, helps residents with open warrants for low-level summonses to get them removed from their record.
At the event, those with such low-level offenses were able to talk to a public defender and appear before a judge in a mobile court room, where their record could then be cleared.
Last year, the program cleared the records of 355 individuals.
"We're doing everything that we can to try to keep people out of the criminal justice system and provide them with resources so that they can be stable and productive members of the community,” said District Attorney Darcel Clark.
