Security questioned at foster center after abduction
Investigators are questioning the security of a Bronx foster care center, after a mother allegedly took her 4-year-old daughter without authorization.
Police say Dora Estrella Olarte took her daughter, Mia, from the New York Foundling Foster Care Center on Brown Place in Mott Haven Monday.
Olarte does not have custody of her daughter, police say, and was charged with two counts of unlawful imprisonment and one count of endangering the welfare of a child.
The four-story building has dozens of large windows, lights on in almost every room and 24-hour surveillance cameras throughout. There is a security checkpoint at the entrance.
News 12 previously reported that the biological mother did have visitation rights, which enabled her to see Mia, who has Down syndrome, under supervision once a week.
