With thousands of businesses suffering during the pandemic, some small business owners in the Bronx took part in a virtual small business crawl as a way to share that they're open.
"Closing for almost four months, you have rent, you have electric bills to pay, it's difficult," says Khaddijatou Dukurah, owner of Nature’s Garden. "We want to let customers know we are open…we have lost a lot of customers."
The Women's Housing and Economic Development Corporation, known as WHEDco, hosted the virtual event on Facebook and Instagram.
Business owners had a chance to share the different ways their businesses have adjusted. They also gave their customers an inside look on who they are and what they're known for.
"Even though we only met eight to nine merchants virtually, there are so many more of them. So we encourage everyone to check out southernblvd.org, we hope to have many more in the future," says WHEDco employee Yesmin Vega. "It's something we want to be able to do again with the other businesses that really wanted to, but they weren't able to participate."
