A special memorial was held Sunday, two months after a fatal fire on Prospect Avenue took the lives of 13 people.

The service, held at the Ghana United Methodist Church, honored six victims who emigrated from Ghana.

Family members of the victims who died in the Dec. 28 fire say they are trusting their faith in these dark times.

"He knows what’s best for us, so that's why we've gathered here to give thanks,” says Twumasi Evans.

Evans lost both of his brothers, Justice Opoku and Gabriel Sarkodie. He says services like Sunday’s, along with community support, has helped his family cope.

"We are not alone and we have people helping us in every situation that we are in,” he says. “We've had it very tough, but we've tried to encourage ourselves."

Theophilus Donkor lost his brother, Solomon, and his niece and nephew, William and Hannah, ages 12 and 17.

"He brought his kids four months ago to live with them here, until the tragedy,” says Donkor.

The family of Army National Guard Private Emmanuel Mensah, the sixth Ghanaian immigrant to perish in the fire while saving others, was also present.
