A Stamford family is hoping to raise awareness about distracted driving after their dog was struck and killed by a car Thursday morning.
Good Samaritans say they saw one dog attempt to cross the street on Strawberry Hill Avenue, but a driver hit a 3-year-old French bulldog - then went around the dog after the initial hit and drove off.
She later died in the arms of someone who tried to save her.
The owner says the dogs had escaped their fenced-in backyard on Pine Tree Drive around 7 a.m.
Laura Coppola tells News 12 that she didn't file a police report because she didn't know she could.
