State data shows Catholic schools’ performance on the rise in the Bronx
New state testing data shows Catholic schools in the Bronx, like St. Angela Merici School on East 163rd Street, are now outperforming state, city and most charter schools in English and math.
"I would tell (parents) that a Catholic school is the best place to bring their child," says Yessenia Teron, a fourth-grade teacher there for more than 20 years.
The superintendent for the archdiocese says exceeding state proficiency was part of a plan put in motion several years ago. The next step is installing the latest technology in classrooms.
