New York state is giving a home care aide agency in the Bronx a major grant to help people train for jobs.

A $200,000 state grant to the Cooperative Home Care Associates' nonprofit partner, Paraprofessional Healthcare Institute, will help hundreds of women in their new careers.

CHCA provides a free four-week training program to become a home care aide for about 600 women. The program guarantees a job upon completion. The money given to Paraprofessional Healthcare Institute will ensure that the peer mentorships and case management that are part of the program are about to improve.

"With this funding now, we have an opportunity to provide this more intense training to more and more people. And again, intense training that leads to employment," says Lamont Spence.

Department of Labor statistics show that the Bronx has the highest unemployment rate in the whole state.
