Power has been restored to some Throgs Neck residents who spent nearly a week without electricity -- but others remained without power Thursday night as Con Edison crews continued to work.
The outage on Hollywood Avenue began last Friday during the first of two nor'easters within a week, when a tree fell down on top of utility lines. A few blocks away, another large tree toppled down on a car, flattening it into the street and tearing down nearby utility poles.
Con Edison crews have since removed the tree and repaired the wires. Utility officials say anyone who comes across any other downed wires should assume they are live and avoid them.
Around the borough, thousands of people have had their power restored since the worst of the weather. Only a few hundred remained without electricity Thursday night.
Luis Trochu, who just arrived in New York from Puerto Rico, says Con Ed's rapid repairs put things in respective. Back home, many people haven't had power for the last six months, since Hurricane Maria battered the island.
